Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Favos ("Favos," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Favos mobile application (the "App"). Favos is currently operated by Brian Gress, an individual developer. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
A note on what Favos does
Favos helps you remember items you've tried at restaurants and other businesses — what you ordered, how you rated it, and notes for next time. Your personal list is stored on your device and synced across your own devices through Apple's iCloud.
Some features rely on combining ratings from many users to produce things like "most-loved items here." Where that is the case, this policy explains what is shared and how.
Information we collect
Information you provide:
- Items you add (names, your notes, your ratings, photos you attach)
- Businesses you add (name, address, and related details, often sourced from Apple Maps)
- "Had it again" visit logs and favorites
Information collected automatically:
- An anonymous device identifier we generate when you first launch the App, used to associate your data with your account without requiring you to provide your name or email
- Approximate or precise location, only when you grant permission, used to find nearby businesses and calculate distances
- Basic technical data necessary for the App to function
Information from Apple (only if you choose to use certain features):
If you choose to sign in with Apple in the future, we receive the identifier Apple provides. Apple may allow you to hide your email address; we do not receive information you choose not to share.
We do not collect your contacts, browsing history, or data from other apps.
How we use your information
Today, we use your information to:
- Provide the core App experience (store and sync your items and ratings)
- Show you nearby businesses and distances (when location is enabled)
- Improve the App's reliability and performance
- Generate non-personalized popularity information, such as the average rating of an item across users who have rated it
We may, in the future, introduce features that use your information to:
- Provide personalized recommendations by comparing your rating patterns with those of other users ("people with similar taste also liked…")
- Offer an opt-in social experience where you may choose to share your ratings, notes, or activity with people you connect with
- Produce aggregate, de-identified insights that may be shared with or sold to businesses (for example, how often customers return for a particular item) — in a form that does not identify individual users and only where a sufficient number of users contribute to the aggregate
- Allow businesses to present offers or promotions that may be matched to general preferences
These future uses are not active today. Where they require it, we will obtain appropriate consent before they apply to your data, and we will update this policy and notify you as required by law.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only as follows:
- Service providers: We use Apple iCloud to sync your data across your devices and Supabase to operate features that rely on combined data. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms.
- Aggregate, de-identified data (future): As described above, we may in the future share or sell information that has been aggregated and de-identified so that it does not reasonably identify you, and only subject to a minimum group size that prevents re-identification.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
- Social features (future, opt-in): If you choose to use social features, information you choose to share will be visible to the people you share it with.
We will not share your individual ratings, notes, or identity with businesses or advertisers in a personally identifiable form without your explicit, informed consent.
Your choices and rights
Location: You can enable or disable location access at any time in your device Settings. The App works without location, with reduced functionality.
Your data: Because your list is stored on your device and in your iCloud account, you can delete items at any time within the App. Deleting the App removes its local data from your device.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are defined by California law. We do not sell personal information today. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the link below. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Other jurisdictions: Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information. Contact us to exercise them.
Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. We retain aggregate and de-identified information, which is not linked to you, for longer periods to support analytics and product features.
Children's privacy
Favos is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including the security provided by Apple iCloud and our service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes — particularly before activating any new use of your data such as personalized recommendations, social features, or the sharing of aggregate insights — we will update the "Last updated" date and, where required, notify you and obtain consent.
